I wanna know why sometimes it's te gustan, not te gusta

I wanna know why sometimes it's te gustan, not te gusta, In what situation we gotta add 'n' behind the gustar?

Hola Lavender L.

The reason we say te gusta or te gustan depends on what you like, specifically, if the thing you like is singular or plural. The verb gustar doesn’t change based on the person (you), but on the thing being liked.

Use te gusta when the thing you like is singular, or if it’s an action (like an activity or verb).

For example:

Te gusta el chocolate. (You like chocolate.)
Te gusta bailar. (You like dancing.)

Use te gustan when the thing you like is plural — more than one item:

Te gustan los gatos. (You like cats.)
Te gustan las películas de terror. (You like horror movies.)

So, the -n at the end of gustan matches the plural noun, not “you”.

Hope that helps! Let me know if you'd like more examples 😊

Saludos

Silvia
