Darse a alguien bien + infinitivo

Hola,

Una de las personajes del programa española que veo dice lo siguiente:

"A ti se te da muy bien coser."

¿Qué significa?  En este caso, "te" es un ejemplo del dativo del interés, ¿verdad? ¿A quién es conjugado "darse"? Al final, ¿hay una lección sobre esta construcción?

Muchas gracias

Hola Jamie,

"Dárse(le) bien/mal hacer algo" se utiliza para decir que "alguien es bueno/malo haciendo algo" (someone is good/bad at doing something):

A ti se te da muy bien coser.

You are very good at sewing.

A ella se le da muy mal cantar.

She is not good at singing.

También se puede usar con "algo" en vez de "hacer algo":

A mí se me da muy bien el boxeo.

I am very good at boxing.

The indirect object pronoun "me, te, le, nos, os, les" indicates who is good at something. This could be taken as a "dativo de interés" as you are suggesting, as this indicates the person who benefits from it. See here our lesson about Dativo de interés.

But I personally see this expression more as a pronominal verb (darse) with an indirect object, that works the same way "gustar" does. You always conjugate the verb dar here in the 3rd person singular or the 3rd person plural, depending on what you are good at. If it is a singular thing or something in plural that you are good at:

A ellos se les dan bien las matemáticas.

They are very good at Maths.

A ellos se les da bien la historia.

They are very good at History.

You can see the agreement between the thing/s and the verb; the same way that it goes with gustar:

A ellos les gustan las matemáticas.

They like Maths.

A ellos les gusta la historia.

They like History.

We don't have any lesson for dársele bien/mal. But here is a lesson using a very similar structure with dar, meaning something different, if you are insterested.

Have a look: darle a alguien por algo

I hope this helped.

Saludos

Inma
