I chose " caliento" because "abrigo" is masculine. Why is "clienta"?

Hola John K.
Good question! In this sentence, calienta is not an adjective (caliente), but the verb calentar conjugated in the third person singular:
Este abrigo calienta un montón. = This coat keeps you very warm / warms you up a lot.
Since it is a verb, it does not need to agree in gender with abrigo.
Caliento would be the first person singular form:
Yo caliento la sopa. = I heat up the soup.
So the correct answer is calienta because the subject is este abrigo (it/heats/warms), not yo (I heat/warm).
Un saludo
Silvia
