The basic and general use of the Spanish preposition "con" is to express "with":

With someone (idea of company)

expressing who someone is accompanied by / is doing something with.

For example:

Voy a ir al cine con Miguel.I am going to go to the cinema with Miguel.

Ella está con sus amigas.She is with her friends.

With + noun (how one does something)

expressing that someone does something in a certain way. For example:

Recibimos la noticia con tristeza.We received the news with sadness. 

Debemos empezar el día con energía.We must start the day with energy.

Mi madre corta la carne con un cuchillo afilado.My mum cuts the meat with a sharp knife.

With something (description)

giving some descriptive information about someone/something.

For example:

Esa chica con el pelo largo es muy simpática.That girl with long hair is very nice.

Mi novio es un chico muy decente y con mucha ambición profesional.My boyfriend is a very decent guy and [someone] with a lot of professional ambition.
