Every summer I visit my grandmother, who lives in a small Quechua community in the Andes. She is one of the few people in the village who still speaks the ancestral language fluently. When I was a child, my mother insisted that I learn a few words every visit. At the time, I didn't understand why it was so important to her. My grandmother taught me to weave when I was eight years old. She would sit beside me for hours, patiently correcting my mistakes. Each pattern told a story passed down through generations. For decades, the government tried to erase our customs. My grandmother was forbidden from speaking her language at school. Despite everything, she never stopped teaching her children at home. Now I understand that if she hadn't resisted, we would have lost everything. Today, young people are proud to wear traditional clothing again.
