The Lady of Elche is one of the most important sculptures of Iberian culture. It was discovered in 1897 in the city of Elche, in Alicante. The figure represents a woman of high nobility or social rank. The sculpture is made of limestone and has a great level of detail. Her face shows a calm and solemn expression. One of the most striking elements are the large ornaments on her head. These ornaments are discs that could symbolize her status. According to some theories, the Lady of Elche is related to mythology and the cult of female goddesses. It is believed that she could represent a mother goddess or a protective figure linked to funeral rites. On the back of the sculpture there is a hole for ashes. The Lady of Elche dates back to approximately the 5th century B.C. Currently, it is in the National Archaeological Museum in Madrid.
