In Costa Rica, lush tropical forests are home to an amazing variety of wildlife. These ecosystems consist of a complex network of interactions among plants, animals, fungi and microorganisms. Giant trees provide a home and food for numerous species of birds, insects and mammals. On the forest floor, fallen leaves decompose thanks to the actions of small organisms, recycling nutrients for plants. The rivers and streams that flow through these forests are habitats for a wide variety of fish, amphibians and reptiles. All elements of these ecosystems are interconnected and depend on each other to maintain a delicate balance. The conservation of these invaluable ecosystems is crucial to preserve biodiversity and ensure a sustainable future for generations to come.
