In Spain, there are the following police forces: firstly, the National Police is a police force which operates throughout the national territory; secondly, the Civil Guard is a military body with police functions in towns and cities; thirdly, the Mossos d'Esquadra is the autonomous police force in Catalonia; and fourthly, the Ertzaintza is the autonomous police force of the Basque Country. These police forces work together to protect citizens.
