How does military service work in Latin America? I don't know much about it but it seems that it depends on the country. My friend Humberto told me the other day that in countries like Cuba, Guatemala and Bolivia, military service is compulsory and conscription applies. However, in other countries such as Chile and Mexico, military service exists but conscription does not apply. Finally, in places like Uruguay, Peru and Ecuador, military service is voluntary; and in Costa Rica the army has not even existed since 1948. Such interesting information!

I'll be right with you...
